Why is Moodle being upgraded?
This upgrade from version 3.1 to 3.5 ensures that Okanagan College Moodle will provide our users with the latest functionality and platform improvements in a robust and secure environment. Version 3.5 has several noticeable differences in appearance, navigation, and functionality intended to improve user experience.
When is Moodle being upgraded?
Moodle will be upgraded very early in the morning on Monday, December 23, 2019. The scheduled outage will commence at 5:00 am and we anticipate the upgrade to be completed by 8:00 am PST. Moodle will be unavailable during this time period. After the upgrade is complete, all current and future courses will be available in Moodle 3.5. Instructors and students do not need to do anything. All course components, including content, discussions, forums, student data, assignments, grades, messages, etc. will roll over with the upgrade. There will be no need to update or re-upload existing content or submissions.
How will this upgrade affect students?
In general, we expect the changes for students to be minimal. Some of the main differences students will notice include:
- A new look and feel which is cleaner, brighter, and less cluttered.
- Mobile device friendly, and very responsive to different devices, which means that students can access and interact with their course using computers, tablets, or phones.
- There are a few small navigation changes. An automatic user tour will appear the first time students log in to Moodle after the upgrade. This User Tour will walk them through the basic navigation changes.
