Introduction to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis in geography. Topics include descriptive statistics, elementary probability, statistics for spatial analysis, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, correlation and regression.
The course is intended to introduce students to basic statistical methods and introduce spatial statistics. The course helps students understand the ethics of geographic data, data quality and acquisition, select appropriate statistical tests, use statistical software packages, and interpret and visualize results of data analysis. Students will learn how to think critically about the data and models that constitute evidence in the public media and in social and natural sciences.
