This course provides a critical examination of the child and family welfare policy. Analyses of
historical and current approaches are presented, including comparative policy in various areas
of Canada and the world. Diverse perspectives on child welfare policy are examined, with
particular attention to Indigenous approaches, to illustrate how economic, social, and political
factors and ideologies influence understanding of the issues affecting children and families.
Policy responses within child welfare practice are also critically analyzed.
