We will move through 5 themes: 1) the sociological eye and imagination; 2) social structures; 3) socialization; 4) stratification; and 5) social change and reproduction. In each of these themes, the course explores a basic question:
1) What is social construction and imagination?
2) How is society organized and structured?
3) What is the relationship between individuals and society?
4) Why is there inequality in the world?
5) How do socialization, the groups we belong to, and the way society is organized and structured affect the way we think and act?
Topics include culture, socialization, social interaction, social inequality, gender, sexuality, race, and ethnicity.
