This course expands on the contents and concepts of Intro to Sociology (SOCI 111) by examining social structures and institutions in Canada. Topics include, but are not limited to, global inequality, work and the economy, politics and the state, media and technology, families, religion, education, crime and deviance, the environment, and social change.

Some central questions that shape this course reflect on how society influences human behaviour and vice versa. How is society organized and structured? How does it affect the way we think and act? What is the relationship between individuals and society? What is our social nature? Why is there inequality in the world?

This course will expand your understanding of sociology and social phenomena. The first part of the course will repeat some of the basics of social conditions and definitions provided by the textbook. The second part of the course will include more in-depth engagement and case studies to unpack some of the foundations we addressed in the first part of the course.

The overall objective of this course is to expand your understanding of sociology to inform a more detailed study of specific social issues and debates.
