Course Description:

In this 36 hour course students examine and critique language, perceptions, attitudes, and treatments of persons who experience barriers to social inclusion due to being systemically disabled. Several approaches are proposed for encouraging belonging including social justice, accessibility, and equity values. Practical components of this course include learning, observing, and applying universal design for safety, belonging, and enrichment of the people we support. Additionally, students will create a person-centered plan and present disability information, with a cultural lens, to peers that meet the requirements of the field.
