English 80 is designed to develop communication skills necessary for career, academic, and personal purposes. Fiction and non-fiction reading materials and a variety of media will be used to develop strong comprehension and critical thinking skills. Writing skills will be developed through various assignments, including paragraphs, summaries, reports, and essays. Grammar skills will be reviewed as a means to improve writing ability. Cooperative learning skills, oral communication skills, and study skills will be practiced throughout the term. Basic computer skills may also be taught as part of English 80.
