This course is designed to give you an introduction to the study of child development. Many aspects of development will be covered in a topical fashion. From conception to the end of the school years, we will explore brain development, perceptual development, and cognition & language to social/emotional development, attachment, and parenting issues. Throughout the course, we will also discuss issues related to atypical development. Theory, history, and methods will also be included to help an understanding of how we have come to realize how development unfolds during these important years, and to give you the tools to think critically about the discoveries that have been made.
